Our Church family and friends have a wonderful opportunity available to help with the restoration of Asbury-Babb House, a log cabin over 200 years old which was the site of Francis Asbury’s last official church conference in 1815. Francis Asbury is known in Methodism as the first American bishop. It is one of four properties owned by the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church. Upkeep of the properties is under the oversight of the Commission on Archives and History.Asbury-Babb House is located behind Bethlehem United Methodist Church, on highway 70 between Mt. Juliet and Lebanon, nearly to the Lebanon city limits.
Phase 1 of the restoration started Thursday, June 21, and continued through mid-July. During this time, the cabin was disassembled and the individual logs preserved with a chemical preservative solution. After they dried, they were stored until the Fall, when. . .
Phase 2 will start in the Fall with the pouring of a new foundation, and the initial processes necessary for the reconstruction of the log cabin.
Phase 3 will be the completion of the restoration and the dedication and re-opening of this little Methodist treasure. Date to be announced later.

If you want to be part of a historic restoration and have a little fun, too, then call Patsy Napier or Linda Collier.
VOLUNTEERS AND OTHER ASSISTANCE NEEDED:
Volunteers needed daily beginning the first week in November for general construction work. Some lifting is required, but there is also plenty of light work, so if you are interested, just let us know and we will give you a job you can do and enjoy.
Volunteers needed to provide lunch for the construction crew and volunteers. You don’t actually have to cook and deliver. You can make a donation and designate “lunch for the volunteers.” But it might be fun and educational to “wait” on the crew yourself.
Additional monetary donations can be made to the Tennessee Conference Historical Society.
Construction folks who have dumpsters or other equipment available to lend
should call and talk to David or Linda Collier at 615-449-1942.
